Remodeled City College's John Adams Campus completed
The John Adams Campus of the City College of San Francisco has finished a major renovation that was initiated in 2003.
On Feb. 24, local luminaries, including SF Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, City College Chancellor Don Griffin and College Board President Milton Marks, attended a celebration at the campus, which is located at 1860 Hayes St., at Masonic Avenue.
The John Adams Campus is located at the former Lowell High School, which was constructed in 1911. After the San Francisco Community College District purchased the property in 1970, it became the John Adams Adult Education Center. When a reorganization of City College was undertaken in the early '90s, it was designated as one of 10 campuses of City College of San Francisco.
The cost for the renovation project was $46.2 million. San Francisco's Proposition A bonds, passed by voters in 2001 and 2005, contributed to the funding, as did $25 million in state monies.
The campus has 60 classrooms, the Orfalea Family Center, a new library, office space and a remodeled gym.
Campus programs include child development and family studies, computer training and office technology, consumer arts and sciences, English as a second language, health information technology, cardiovascular technology, KG Technician training, phlebotomy, emergency medical technician and paramedic training, medical assisting, pharmacy technician training, transitional studies and vocational nursing.
