Roosevelt School wins award

Three west side schools have been recognized for raising the test scores of its low income students.

Francis Scott Key and Ulloa elementary schools and Roosevelt Middle School won Title 1 Academic Achievement Awards because they raised the test scores of its students in the past year.

"This award is significant because it recognizes the schools that are helping our lowest income students make outstanding gains to meet state academic standards," said SF Superintendent Carlos Garcia.

The criteria to qualify for the Title I Academic Achievement Award have become more rigorous in recent years. To meet the criteria for the award, schools must demonstrate that all students are making significant progress toward proficiency on California's academic content standards.

Additionally, the school's socio-economically disadvantaged students must have doubled the achievement targets set for them for two consecutive years.
