Police Blotter
Battery: Feb. 14, 12:45 a.m., Geary Boulevard and 27th Avenue
A taxi driver called police saying he was assaulted by a passenger who hit him
three times in the head. Officers arrived at the scene and located the suspect
standing a block from the incident and took him into custody. The driver said
he pulled over to pick up three fares, with two of them jumping into the back
seat and the suspect sitting up front. The driver refused to transport the man
until he secured his seat belt, which caused the 24-year-old suspect, who appeared
to be drunk, to fly into a rage an hit the cabbie.
Robbery: Feb. 4, 11:35 p.m., Geary Boulevard and 14th Avenue
A woman was walking when she heard the footsteps of someone running up behind
her. A male suspect grabbed the woman's purse and tried to yank it out of her
arms, but the woman held on while yelling at the suspect. After pushing the
woman to the ground and continuing to struggle for the purse, the suspect gave
up and fled without the purse.
Possession of Narcotics for Sale: Feb. 3, 12:10 p.m., 600 Block of 34th
Avenue
Officers arrived at a home to serve an outstanding arrest warrant. After taking
the 21-year-old suspect into custody, officers discovered a large quantity of
marijuana, cocaine and Ecstasy in the residence. The suspect was booked on the
outstanding warrant and the new drug charges.
Public Brawl: Feb. 16, 10 p.m., Clement Street and 10th Avenue
Officers responded to a parking lot on Clement Street and discovered a full-scale
brawl in progress. Officers detained 15 suspects, three of whom had visible
injuries. An ambulance was summoned for treatment. All parties were uncooperative
and refused to tell the officers what happened. Two of the suspects were juveniles,
who were released to the custody of their parents. The other suspects were identified
and released.
Robbery: Feb. 26, 1:15 p.m., Golden Gate Park
A man was lying on a bench at the AIDS Memorial Grove during his lunch break,
with his eyes closed, when someone pressed a hard object to his head. When he
opened his eyes, he saw two suspects standing over him, one with a gun pressed
to his head. The victim responded to the suspect's demand for money and handed
over his wallet. The suspects fled toward Lincoln Way. Officers responded to
the area and searched for the suspects, which they discovered at Hippie Hill
in the park, near the Children's Playground. Two 18-year-old males were taken
into custody, but the weapon was not located.
Indecent Exposure: Feb. 18, 1:45 p.m., 4100 Block of Clement Street
A 42-year-old man was exposing himself on the grounds of a hospital in the Outer
Richmond District. Officers arrived at the scene and took the man into custody.
A records check revealed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
Vandalism: Feb. 12, 6:45 p.m., Geary Boulevard and Sixth Avenue
A woman called police to report a man who was using his head in a break-in attempt.
After seeing the man hit his head on the business' window and thinking it was
an accident, the witness changed her mind when the man hit his head on the glass
several more times, the last time successfully breaking it. The 46-year-old
male suspect was arrested.
Embezzlement: Feb. 19, Geary and Arguello Boulevards
Officers were called to a business and presented evidence that an employee was
taking money from the till. The employee was taking receipts from cash transactions
and charging them to an in-house corporate credit card. It was estimated that
more than $15,000 was stolen since August 2008. A 22-year-old woman was charged
for the crime.
Assault: Feb. 12, 9:15 p.m., Geary Boulevard and 26th Avenue
An intoxicated man was walking home when he was accosted by two male suspects,
who struck the man with unknown objects. The suspect vaguely remembers walking
home. When he awoke the next day, he discovered his front teeth were cracked,
his forehead was bruised and his wallet and prescription glasses were missing.
The man made his way to the Richmond Station and filed a police report.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon: Feb. 6, 1:45 p.m., Clement Street and 25th
Avenue
A bicycle rider was stopped at a red light when he heard a "pop" and then felt
a pain in his left arm. Realizing he had been shot, the 34-year-old male was
taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Officers canvassed the
area for two days for evidence or a motive in the shooting, but were unable
to develop any solid leads in the case. The case remains under investigation
at the Bureau of Inspectors.
Public Intoxication, Resisting Arrest: Feb. 14, 12:30 a.m., 500 Block of
Clement Street
A patron at a bar refused to pay his bar tab and started arguing with the bartender.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the man slumped over a table. When they
awakened the suspect, he became argumentative and combative, swinging and striking
the officers. The officers got the man to calm down and agree to pay his bar
tab before being transported to the Richmond Station for booking.
