Students compete in poster contest

Elementary schools earn $100, students to be honored Nov. 1

Members of the Clement Street Merchants Association committee judged 542 entries in the association's sixth annual Children's Poster Contest Oct. 17.

Entries were submitted by students in grades kindergarten through sixth grades from Richmond District elementary schools. The seasonal themes for the contest were Fall, Harvest and/or Halloween.

First, second and third place ribbons and one honorable mention award was given to students entering the contest. Schools with a first-place winner received $100 for their art programs (one prize per school). The awards were sponsored by PG&E.

An awards presentation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Toy Boat Dessert Cafe, located at 401 Clement St., at noon. The master of ceremonies will be Jesse Fink, who is the president of the Clement Street Merchants Association.

All winners, participants, parents and teachers are invited to attend and the winning schools are encouraged to send a designated representative to receive the awards. Getting a check for having a first-place winner are the Alamo, St. Monica's, Argonne, Sutro, George Peabody, Zion Lutheran and Lafayette elementary schools.

Winners in the kindergarten category were: Jeremy Lum (first place, Zion Lutheran), Kelly Yu (second place, Sutro), Eric Coestad (third place, Lafayette), and Samantha Tom (honorable mention).

Winners in the first grade competition were: Mayee Duong (first place, Alamo), Liza Bella Nadelson (second place, St. Monica's), and Cynthia Lei (third place, Argonne).

Winners in the second grade contest were: Ava Taylor (first place, George Peabody), Milo Greenwood (second place, St. Monica's), Julian David (Lafayette), and Jeffrey Ma (honorable mention).

Third grade award winners were: Artus Tran (first place, Argonne), Tatyana Grishanina (second place, Alamo), Elena Cawthon (third place, St. Monica's), and Nomin Rinchin (honorable mention).

Winners in the fourth grades were: Alexandria Lee (first place, Lafayette), Gordon Kong (second place, Sutro), Amy Lei (third place, St. Monica's), Adair Huang (honorable mention).

Fifth grade winners were: Nick Barchuladze (first place, Sutro), Jennifer Zhu (second place, Alamo), Jennifer Wong (third place, Lafayette), and Eric Chen (honorable mention).

Winners in the sixth grade contest were all from St. Monica's, the only school to participate at this grade level. Its winners were: Sophia Liao (first place), Linda Kim (second place), Collin Deng (third place), and Vivian Lerche (honorable mention).

The winning posters are on display at the Toy Boat Dessert Cafe and at other merchant windows along Clement Street until after Halloween.
