Commercial Burglary: July 13, 5:30 p.m., 3700 Block of Geary Boulevard
A suspected burglar was spotted by a store manager, who had observed the suspect
on store surveillance equipment removing two cellular phones from their packaging
in June before exiting, without paying for the items.
When the suspect returned to the scene of the crime, he left without taking anything. But the manager followed the suspect to his vehicle and got the license plate number. Officers arrived at the suspect's home just as he was leaving. They stopped the suspect long enough for the manager to be summoned to identify the suspect.
"That's him. He's the one," the manager said.
The suspect was transported to Richmond Station and booked.
Robbery, Street or Public Place, with Force: July 13, 9:35 p.m., Geary Boulevard
and 22nd Avenue
The victim was waiting to catch a bus at Geary and Stockton streets for his
ride home when he noticed five men in a small car checking him out. When the
man exited the bus at Geary Boulevard and 20th Avenue, he noticed four men were
following him.
In the middle of the block between 22nd and 23rd avenues, the four men rushed up to the victim and knocked him down. All were punching and kicking the suspect as they took his iPod.
Officers noticed five men in a car matching the description of the suspect's vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. After backup arrived, officers were able to get a positive identification of the suspects, two of whom were juveniles.
The 20-year-old victim, who sustained multiple cuts, refused medical attention.
Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Conspiracy: July 10, 9:10 a.m., 700 Block
of Seventh Avenue
Officers got a call saying a homeless man had been hit in the head and robbed
of his dog. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, who was bleeding from
his head.
The victim said three suspects that he knew from the park awakened him by choking him with some string beads he was wearing. When the suspects demanded the 41-year-old victim's pit bull terrier, he refused. One of the suspects then hit him on the head with a wrench three times before the victim relinquished the dog.
After the first suspect left with the dog, the victim noticed the second suspect talking to himself. When the victim said a bicycle fork in the nearby bushes was his, the second suspect hit the victim in the head with it.
Officers discovered the suspect with the bicycle fork a block away and detained him for identification purposes.
While waiting for the victim to appear, a second suspect cruised by on his bicycle, with the suspected kidnapped dog in tow. He was detained as well.
The two suspects werebooked at Richmond Station.
Residential Burglary: July 7, 7 a.m., 1600 Block of Lake Street
A woman was awakened by the sound of breaking glass. She initially tried to
go back to sleep but became alarmed when a second crash sounded like it was
coming from her home.
She called 911 and walked to the top of her second-floor stairway, where she could see a man standing outside the broken window talking to someone; it happened to be police officers that arrived quickly to the scene.
The 29-year-old suspect was booked.
Driving with Suspended License: July 7, 6:09 p.m., Cornwall Street and Second
Avenue
A taxi driver involved in a two-vehicle fender bender called police when he
discovered the driver of the other vehicle had no driver's license or proof
of insurance. A computer check showed the driver's license to be suspended.
The suspect was booked.
Burglary, Attempted Forcible Entry: July 13, 2:32 a.m., 4500 Block of California
Street
A 29-year-old man was leaving his apartment building to go to work when two
suspects approached outside the front gates of the apartment building.
"Let me in b___ or I'm going to kill you," the suspect reportedly said.
Fearing for his life, the man ran back inside the apartment building.
Officers discovered two men who fit the description of the suspects at a fast food restaurant at Geary and 11th Avenue. They were positively identified and booked.
