Letter to the Editor

Editor:

I live in Lake City now but come to San Francisco once a month to do docent duty at the SF Zoo.

What a surprise in the September issue of the Sunset Beacon. I lived in one of the earthquake cottages earmarked for destruction, at 4331 Kirkham St., in 1969. Since then, I would always bring out-of-town company out to Kirkham to see it, until a fence was built around the property.

I would love to go through it one more time before they take it down.

I'll never forget the year I spent in the cottage. I think it was one of the wettest winters and the cottage had no heat and the roof leaked.

You could hear the ocean, which was great, and one or two earthquakes rumbled through. I could hear my neighbor's plates rattle but the cottage just rolled with the temblor.

Thank you for the article.
